London writer Kit Lovelace did a very important public service yesterday: He tweeted out a chart he created that shows how much coffee each character on Friends consumed over 236 episodes. Some fans may think Chandler to be the caffeine guzzler of the group, but according to Lovelace, it’s actually Phoebe.
Here’s the chart Lovelace created, organized by character.
But he didn’t stop there. The people need to know how the characters’ coffee drinking habits waned and waxed throughout the 10 seasons. As you can see from the chart below, Rachel started low in the first four seasons, probably because she spent so much time waitressing, and then peaked in season 5. By the last few seasons, as evidenced by the downward trend on the graph below, the whole cast had cooled it on the java.
These fans are hungry for content, though, and they also need to know the characters respective coffee budgets. Lovelace doesn’t disappoint.
Lovelace said on his Twitter that this was actually a project he did in 2015 for the blog PopBitch after seeing an article in Scientific American that merely assumed how many cups the characters drank per episode. Challenge accepted, it seems.
Kit, please, please, for the love of the early 2000s, break down Gilmore Girls next — our bet’s on Lorelai.
