The 13 Reasons Why cast marched in San Francisco's Pride parade and brought us joy

Cast members from Netflix’s 13 Reasons Why marched in San Fransisco’s Pride parade Sunday and took to Instagram to document the fun.

Katherine Langford, Michele Selene Ang, Alisha Boe, Joey Maryo, Justin Prentice, Christian Navarro, and more hopped on Netflix’s float emblazoned with “So many reasons to be proud,” wearing shirts with the message “Be an original,” alluding to 13 Reasons being an original Netflix series.

Among depression, bullying, and suicide, another theme of 13 Reasons Why is homophobia. One central character of the show, Courtney, played by Michele Selene Ang, struggles with her sexuality and fears her classmates will find out she is gay. Pride seems like a fitting place to include these narratives and celebrate the characters’ diversity.

The cast has proven to be supportive of queer rights and culture in the past. Boe, who plays Jessica, told EW in an interview that while some cast members were living in the same apartment by chance, they bonded over RuPaul’s Drag Race. “I lived two doors down from Christian, and every day after set, I would go over to his place and watch RuPaul’s Drag Race.”
