The future of James Bond is still in flux. Will Daniel Craig return for another post-Spectre installment, or will the next successor fill the role of 007? Whatever the case may be, we can probably assume neither James Corden nor David Beckham will get the job.

The retired soccer star shared a behind-the-scenes pic to Instagram of some “late night Bonding,” and Thursday night’s Late Late Show revealed it was for a 007-themed sketch in which they compete for the iconic movie role through a series of screen tests. Meanwhile, Beckham takes every opportunity he can to throw Corden off his game.

Beckham switched out Corden’s Bond tux with something more appropriate for Austin Powers and interrupted the seduction scene. Ms. Bunny Hemlock is far more partial to sleeping with the underwear model, so Corden played the game the only way he knew how: surprising Beckham as the Bond Girl.

“Spy s–. Deal with it,” Corden winked.

In the end, neither gets the part, since their competition turned into a slap fest. But they soon find common ground and realize they should work together on a new Batman and Robin movie. “We’re a team, we should be working together,” Corden said.

The bit comes on the final episode of Corden’s Late Late Show run in London, which played host to guests like Jennifer Hudson, Tom Cruise, and Ed Sheeran earlier in the week.
