MTV star Danny Dias has died, PEOPLE can confirm. He was 34.
According to police, Dias — who appeared on the network’s Road Rules and The Challenge — was found on Saturday around 5 p.m. after they received a call about a male who needed assistance at an apartment in Brooklyn, New York. When authorities arrived, Dias was unconscious and unresponsive; paramedics pronounced him dead on the scene. The cause of death is unknown at this time.
A source tells PEOPLE Dias was found with lacerations on his wrists and surrounded by hallucinogenic drugs.
According to TMZ, who was first to report the death, Dias invited a friend to his apartment in Brooklyn, New York, on Saturday. They parted ways that day, but then when the friend returned to Dias’ apartment later, he was found dead in his bedroom.
Dias first appeared on season 13 of MTV’s Road Rules, Road Rules: X-Treme, which took place in Argentina and Chile and aired in 2004. The reality game show featured a group of young people who compete for prizes in a series of challenges.
Originally a native of Linden, New Jersey, Dias went on to appear on Real World/Road Rules Challenge: The Gauntlet 2, the 11th season of MTV’s The Challenge, which premiered in 2005. (MTV did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.)
After Dias left the reality TV world, he held jobs in finance, studied acting and co-founded an AIDS research charity called Generation Cure, per LinkedIn.
