Brooklyn Nine-Nine renewed for season 5

Nine-Nine! Season 5!

Fox has renewed cop comedy Brooklyn Nine-Nine for a fifth season, EW has learned.

The critic-friendly series — which stars Andy Samberg and Andre Braugher as detective and captain, respectively, in a Brooklyn police precinct — was considered likely for renewal, though its ratings did drop from last season, leaving it at least somewhat vulnerable. (Season 4 averaged just under 3 million viewers and a 1.3 in the 18-to-49-demographic.)

Just a few weeks ago, Dan Goor — who created the series with Parks and Recreation overlord Michael Schur — sounded very optimistic about scoring another season. “We are incredibly hopeful,” he said. “And we did not write this [season 4 finale] as a series finale, so if it is the series finale, we will all be upset. But we are very hopeful, and we’ve received a lot of support from Gary and Dana [Newman and Walden, CEOs of Fox Television Group].”

Fellow veteran comedy The Last Man On Earth also earned a renewal from Fox, but freshman comedies Son of Zorn and Making History were not so lucky.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine — which also stars Chelsea Peretti, Melissa Fumero, Terry Crews, Stephanie Beatriz, Joe Lo Truglio, Dirk Blocker, and Joel McKinnon Miller — offers up its hourlong season 4 finale on May 23.
