Blindspot's Luke Mitchell on Roman's next move

It’s the moment Blindspot fans have been expecting ever since Jane Doe wiped her brother Roman’s memory: Roman, well, remembered.

After Jane (Jaimie Alexander) finally got provisional freedom for Roman (Luke Mitchell) to stay at her safe house, he had a flash of the night his memory was wiped, realizing that his sister was actually responsible.

Suffice it to say, Roman is not happy. “Anger, lots and lots of anger, and betrayal,” Mitchell tells EW of what’s running through Roman’s head. “He has a pretty rash reaction. He’s just a very volatile person, as we’ve come to see. This is such a big moment in the season.”

Mitchell likens Roman’s reaction to a game of Jenga, where you’re looking for the very last piece to pull before the tower falls. “I feel like that’s Roman 2.0,” Mitchell explains. “He’s been built up, he’s a bit dodgy, he’s getting some memories and trying to work out who he is and how he fits in, so he’s just keeping it together and then this final memory was the equivalent of someone taking a piece out right from the bottom of the tower and it just happens to be his sister.”

While Roman immediately lashed out at Jane when his memory returned, Mitchell says that more than anything, Roman is wounded by what’s happened and has no clear plan moving forward. “I don’t think he knows what he’s doing at this point in time — he’s just pure reaction and emotion,” Mitchell says. “He realizes he can’t trust the one person that he’s trusted since his memory loss; that’s huge, massive, and shocking to him. He’s just reverted to animalistic behavior to defend himself because he doesn’t trust her. This is the beginning of the end in terms of our season arc. This is the roller coaster taking off, basically.”

However, just because Jane has betrayed him doesn’t mean Roman will necessarily go running back to Shepherd (Michelle Hurd). “I don’t think so,” Mitchell says. “I don’t think he knows what he wants.” Check out how Roman will react to Shepherd’s return in this exclusive sneak peek at Wednesday’s episode:

Blindspot airs Wednesdays at 8 p.m. ET on NBC.
