Maksim Chmerkovskiy sat out another night of Dancing with the Stars Monday, but the veteran hoofer hopes to return to the ballroom by next Monday.

“I’m walking now. I’m making strides,” said Chmerkovskiy, who tore his calf muscle during week 2 of the ABC show. “I’m hoping for a full comeback by the end of the week.”

His partner, Heather Morris, had to dance a second night without the popular pro, but she clearly didn’t miss a step. She and her temporary partner, Alan Bersten, earned the first 9 of the season with an impressive tango. The duo received a 33 out of 40.

“I’m so excited for this dance!” Chmerkovskiy said of their performance.

Meanwhile, Chmerkovskiy showed off his progress on social media, above.
