Last season on Brooklyn Nine-Nine, you met Holt’s sister, and she was nothing like the good captain. Later this season, you will meet Holt’s mom. And like mother, like son.

L. Scott Caldwell will play Laverne, the woman who brought Raymond Holt (Andre Braugher) into this world, EW has learned exclusively. Laverne will enter the world of the Nine-Nine when she is the victim of a crime. As you may recall, she is a federal judge, and she was referenced in season 1’s Thanksgiving episode when Holt addressed her as “Your Honor” while on the phone with her. “They have a very formal relationship as you would expect,” executive producer Dan Goor tells EW. “The apple does not fall far from the tree. At one point she says in the flattest most deadpanned way, ‘Ah, yes, humor. There’s nothing more that I love than laughter and laughing,’ as she stands cross-armed next to a cross-armed Holt.”

Caldwell, who played Rose on Lost, boasts TV credits that include Mercy Street, How to Get Away with Murder, Southland, and ER. Last month, she joined the cast of ABC comedy pilot The Trustee.

The episode is slated to air in May. Brooklyn Nine-Nine returns to Fox on April 10, ready to resolve the cliffhanger involving the fate of Gina (Chelsea Peretti).

Upcoming guests on Brooklyn also include Nathan Fillion and Greg Germann.
