Kristen Bell’s duet with James Cordon on Tuesday night’s The Late Late Show was comical at best and unbalanced at worst — and that isn’t even a critique of the performance itself, just what happened.
The Frozen actress joined the late-night songster for Joe Cocker and Jennifer Warnes’ “Up Where We Belong,” complete with aerial lifts for added theatrics. But the duet turned into a comedic bit as the wire handler kept lifting them off balance.
“You know, Kristen, I was just thinking: love can be a funny thing,” Corden said before the duet.
“You know, I love love, James,” Bell added.
“And I love love, too, Kristen, but love can lift us up,” he said.
Their light Broadway voices, then, turned into shouts of “I’m backwards” and “we’re supposed to be even” once the wirework began.
