The first season finale of NBC’s This is Us set a major ratings record.

With the numbers just now in for Tuesday’s season ender (thanks to Nielsen’s ratings delays this week), we now know that This is Us delivered 12.8 million viewers and a 3.4 rating among adults 18-49. That’s up 13 percent from the show’s previous all-time best number.

For NBC, the finale marks broadcast TV’s highest-rated drama on any network in five months (aside from Fox’s post-Super Bowl presentation of 24: Legacy). It’s also NBC’s most-watched in-season Tuesday scripted program in nearly nine years.

For more, here’s star Milo Ventimiglia on the finale and the This is Us creatorDan Fogelman talking about the finale’s dark ending.

Earlier this year, NBC renewed This Is Us for two more seasons, with each season featuring 18 episodes a piece.
