Oscar winner Timothy Hutton has joined the cast of Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan, the new hourlong original drama series from Amazon starring John Krasinski as the titular C.I.A. analyst.

Hutton will serve in the recurring guest role of Singer, Deputy Director of Operations. The series itself focuses on Jack as an up-and-coming analyst who embarks on his first (and highly dangerous) field assignment. He’ll uncover a pattern in terrorist communication that puts him on the trail of a new, world-threatening breed of terrorism.

Amazon originally greenlit the project for 10 episodes, but the latest press release states it will be eight hourlong episodes.

Hutton, recently seen on ABC’s American Crime, previously worked with Krasinski on Brief Interviews with Hideous Men, which the 13 Hours star directed and penned based on the David Foster Wallace work.

“I think in some ways, Jack Ryan is our American James Bond,” Krasinski told EW. “He’s certainly not as suave nor gets as many girls, but there’s something really safe about knowing that someone like him is out there. I always loved the books, loved the movies. And I think [executive producers] Carlton Cuse and Graham Roland, what they’re coming up with is a completely different take.”

Cuse (Bates Motel) and Roland (Almost Human), in addition to penning the pilot episode, executive produce Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan with Krasinski, Michael Bay, Brad Fuller, Andrew Form, David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Marcy Ross. Mace Neufeld is also on board as a co-executive producer.

The series will premiere on Amazon Prime sometime in 2018.
