James Corden was hoping to get at least some information — a teaser, a nugget, a soundbite — about Star Wars: The Last Jedi from Laura Dern on The Late Late Show Wednesday night. But the actress has been trained in the art of navigating spoiler minefields.
“I literally can say nothing except that I…” she began before commenting that she’s too focused on her own hand gestures to continue. So, the other guest on the couch, Zach Galifianakis, stepped in to gesticulate for her.
“I was going to work, like any other job,” she continued. “You know, going along. A small, independent movie, I get my wardrobe on, I learn my lines, I go to set, there’s a crew around, everybody’s lovely, people get their tea or their coffee… So, I then get to set and they roll the camera, and I look around and it’s Star Wars!”
Dern, as well as Benicio Del Toro and Kelly Marie Tran, are among the new cast members featured in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, directed by Rian Johnson (Looper). Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Adam Driver, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Anthony Daniels, Gwendoline Christie, Andy Serkis, Mark Hamill, and the late Carrie Fisher will also appear.
The Last Jedi will open in theaters this Dec. 15, but a panel for the film will be held at Star Wars Celebration Orlando in April. So secrets will be revealed in due time.
