Survivor: Game Changers' Hali admits 'I don't know why I'm back'

Posted on

There were a lot of big personalities playing big games in Survivor: Worlds Apart. Hali Ford was not one of them. And she’ll be the first to admit it. Hali seemed just as surprised as fans that she was asked back for Survivor: Game Changers (premiering March 8 on CBS) when I spoke to her on location in Fiji before filming began.

It was a refreshing display of self-awareness not always seen by reality show contestants. Watch the video above and read the Q&A below to see for yourself. (Also make sure to follow @thedaltonross on Instagram to see exclusive on-location photos, including one of Hali casting her pre-game vote for whom she’d like to vote off first.)

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: Why you are here, Hali?
HALI FORD: I don’t know why I’m back. I think I played a horrible game my first time around, but I’m glad to be here and I’m about to change things up.

So you’re surprised that you are here?
I think it’s just by the grace of God and it’s meant to be that I’m going to pull it out and get a million dollars.

What will you do differently this time then?
This time will be different because my brain will be on instead of off. I didn’t really think in the last game. I’m a smart person. I’m a lawyer. I’m not a dumb-dumb and that’s what I was in the last game, so this time I’ll use my actual thinking abilities and devise a plan so I can win.

Whom would you like to work with out there?
Ironically, I like Sarah the Cop [ED NOTE: Possible Law & Order alliance!], Tony’s little sidekick in the last season. So if they’re pitted against each other, which I hope they are, I’m gonna go for Sarah. But if they’re together, that’s kind of a turn-off for her as an alliance person, so I’ll probably go with Malcolm. He’s kind of the go-to alliance guy.

Do you think other players are surprised to see you out here?
I hope that other players are surprised to see me out here because that’s my strategy — just lay low and when they least expect it, strike. Nobody’s expecting anything of me, I think, so I’m going to ride that wave until I lay all my traps and win.

How do you handle the new players you haven’t met?
So we’ve got two people here from back to back seasons. I’m ready to see how they play. I think Michaela is going to bring some game. She looks like she’s ready to go. The guy with the mustache, I don’t know. I see him as an easy target. We’ll see.

What do you think the other players think of you?
If people are smart, they will know there is more to me that just a pretty face and poofy hair or whatever it is people think about me. But I’m banking on them not thinking more of me than just some free spirit, no collar girl.

How much is it killing Max Dawson that you are here and he is not?
Oh, Max Dawson! Eat it! I like Max. He’s a good guy. I would love to see Max out here in a heartbeat. I think he could be a Game Changer. But they picked me! Sorry, Max!
