The origin story of William Shakespeare begins here.
During Sunday night’s SAG Awards, the network released a teaser trailer for Will, which stars newcomer Laurie Davidson as the young bard as he arrives onto the “punk-rock theater scene in 16th century London” looking to make a name for himself. It’s basically the young and sexy treatment that Shakespeare’s origin story has been waiting for!
“They say in London, people cry the names of plays as if they were kings,” the playwright says in the clip, which teases us with the seductive and violent world into which he’s entering.
Unfolding over a modern soundtrack, the show will endeavor to reveal all of Shakespeare’s “recklessness, lustful temptations and brilliance.” As he moves through this debaucherous world, he’ll meet Alice Burbage (Olivia DeJonge), the daughter of a theater impresario who is forbidden from acting, and team up with her innately talented but self-involved brother Richard (Mattias Inwood). The series also stars Jamie Campbell-Bower as Shakespeare’s rival Christopher Marlowe and Ewen Bremner as notorious law enforcer Richard Topcliffe.
Surely, the violent delights promised in the teaser will have violent ends, right?
Will premieres Summer 2017 on TNT.
