Jimmy Fallon should be polished and prepared to host the 74th Annual Golden Globe Awards next month. It will not have been done without his fair share of preparation — and it wasn’t always easy.

In an exclusive outtakes clip, Fallon is seen working out the kinks during promo shoots for the award show. Like his Mr. Magoo-like glasses.

“Hi, I’m Jimmy Fallon, and here’s something I won’t be doing on the Golden Globes,” he says before putting on the specs and uttering baby-like nonsense.

Later, he picks up an acoustic guitar and strums a few out-of-tune chords and sings a few out-of-tune lines, eventually doing his best Eddie Van Halen impression. “You get the idea,” he humbly adds.

See the video below. The Golden Globes air live on Sunday, Jan. 8 at 8 p.m. ET on NBC.
