I’m reading a historical novel [Chapultepec] that takes place in the 1860s, when Napoleon III installed his kinfolk, Maximilian and Carlota, as emperor and empress in the royal palace in Mexico City. It’s great. I’m really enjoying it. If you like to learn history painlessly, this is the way to do it. The author [Norman Zollinger] really knows the landscape of Mexico. I’m also reading H.G. Wells’ The Outline of History, which was published in 1920. It covers Cro-Magnon man to World War I. I had been meaning to read the whole thing for a while. If you think you have a grasp of history and you want to fill in gaps, the guy really can write.

Tony Hillerman’s latest mystery is Finding Moon.
