KATIE COURIC

Posted on

Today anchor Katie Couric, 36, isn’t crazy about being called ”cute,” so we tagged her with another four-letter adjective starting with C. (How better to describe someone who puts up with Bryant Gumbel’s ego and Willard Scott’s antics at 7 a.m. five days a week and made the show worth watching again?) Here’s her reaction:

KC: Am I really cool? I’m not cool. I guess there’s no accounting for taste. EW: What’s your definition of cool? KC: Cool is something you are when you don’t try to be it. I think contrived cool is gross, but if people think you are when you don’t try, that’s cool. EW: Do you try to be cool? KC: No. In fact, I’m a bit of a nonconformist when it comes to real trendy things. I’ve been bucking the exercise trend for the last 15 years. I’m not sure if that’s cool or not. EW: Do Bryant and Willard think of you as cool? KC: (laughing) No. I don’t think the word cool probably comes to mind when they describe me. I don’t want to say what comes to mind. You’d have to ask them. Is Bryant in the Cool issue? EW: No. KC: Oh, ooh, ooh, I won’t tell him that you don’t think he’s cool. EW: You’ve just interviewed Hillary Rodham Clinton. Is she cool? KC: I’d definitely say Hillary’s cool. She’s competent and not afraid to be, and incredibly disciplined. She seems like a nice woman, and I guess that’s cool.
