Shears will replace two-time Tony nominee Stark Sands, who originated the role of Charlie Price, the heir to a shoe factory who turns it around by designing footwear for drag performers. Shears will board the cast for a limited run, from Jan. 8 through April 1. On Jan. 8, he’ll be joined by J. Harrison Ghee, returning to the cast as drag queen Lola (and succeeding Billy Porter).

“I have been dreaming of doing Broadway, and my wish got answered tenfold,” Shears said in a statement. “I couldn’t be more excited about doing Kinky Boots on Broadway; it’s going to be a delicious challenge! Believe it or not, they’re going to be the first stilettos I’ll ever have worn. My feet are so big, I’ve never seen a pair that would actually fit me.”

Pentatonix’s Maldonado will also join the cast this spring as Lauren, Charlie’s love interest. She will play her first performance Feb. 2 and exit the show April 8, one week after Shears.

“Being on Broadway has been my ultimate bucket list goal since I was 8 years old, so I’m so excited to join such an incredible cast to share this special story” Maldonado said.
