A little bit of Parisian joie is about to make its New York bow — but you can get a sneak peek right now before the curtain rises.
The Broadway production of Amélie begins previews Thursday night, and ahead of its first show, producers have announced details for the musical’s cast album, featuring Tony nominee Phillipa Soo (Hamilton’s original Eliza Schuyler) in the title role.
Amélie’s cast recording will arrive digitally starting May 19 and in stores shortly after, on June 9. It’s available to preorder now, and EW has an exclusive first listen to a bonus version of Soo singing one of the musical’s tunes: a dreamy, charmante track called “Times Are Hard For Dreamers.”
Based on the 2001 film of the same name, Amélie stars Soo as a shy, imaginative young woman who covertly executes small, surprising acts of kindness for those around her. Adam Chanler-Berat costars as Nino, and the cast also includes David Andino, Randy Blair, Heath Calvert, Alison Cimmet, Savvy Crawford, Manoel Felciano, Harriett D. Foy, Alyse Alan Louis, Maria-Christina Oliveras, Paul Whitty, and Tony Sheldon.
The musical, which played in Los Angeles last year, features a score by Daniel Messé and Nathan Tysen and a book by Craig Lucas, with Pam MacKinnon directing the Broadway production.
