HeeellllllOOOOOOOOO! The third and fourth parts of Showtime’s revived Twin Peaks took viewers on a rollicking trip to the outer reaches of the cosmos – and also to Las Vegas, where the reality-tossed Special Agent Cooper found himself after a brain-scrambling trip through an electrical socket. “What just happened?” is the obvious question, but even more surprising is how much these hours dug into the show’s comedy side, sending Dale on a jackpot odyssey through an unlucky casino. Also, Dr. Jacoby painted some shovels gold. Also, the FBI investigated the Congressman’s Dilemma. Also, there’s a third Agent Cooper, and his name is Dougie. To quote Dougie, “That’s… weird.”
On this week’s double-sized episode of A Twin Peaks Podcast: A Podcast About Twin Peaks, Jeff Jensen and I dig into the mysteries and hilarities of Cooper’s journey. We discuss tantalizing links to other David Lynch films and to certain Tom Petty tracks, and zero in on some key ways that these hours fed back into the prequel film Fire Walk With Me. Be sure to check out our bonus episode (out tomorrow), where we chat with The Leftovers co-creator (and Twin Peaks obsessive) Damon Lindelof about the opening four hours of Showtime’s revival.
