Ansel Elgort was a perfect choice to star as the titular “Baby” of Baby Driver, Edgar Wright’s music-fueled heist film. While the actor was going fast and furious in a red getaway car, he was also dabbling with his own music on the side. On Friday, Elgort went “Supernova” with his latest release.

The new music video for his song, directed by Colin Tilley and produced by Boy In The Castle, sees the Fault In Our Stars star working up a sweat as he sings about a lost love — someone he met in California who ditched him for some guy in Georgia. “Your heart’s in the ground frozen over/ My heart’s in the sky, supernova,” he mourns.

But he’s working through it, accompanied by colorful hues straight out of Denis Villeneuve’s Blade Runner 2049.

“With ‘Supernova’ I made something that I knew I’d want to hear,” Elgort said in a statement (via Just Jared). “For the first time with my music, it really feels like it’s really coming from me. I was able to let my subconscious take over and never second-guess any artistic impulse while writing.”

Along with Tilley, who directed Kendrick Lamar’s “Alright” video, Elgort shared some behind-the-scenes images.

Since his first release, “Home Alone,” Elgort has dished out songs like “All I Think About Is You,” “You Can Count On Me,” and “Thief.”

“I’m especially excited about my music project at this moment,” he added. “Can’t wait to share more of the new stuff.”
