Hear rising pop star Grace Mitchell's explosive new single 'RIIICH'

Grace Mitchell has released more than half a dozen new tracks in 2017, but you’d be hard-pressed to find a throughline between them — and that’s just the way Mitchell likes it.

Instead of releasing a conventional, cohesive album, the rising pop singer, 20, is taking a page from Drake and releasing a playlist to showcase all sides of her musical identity. Now, EW can announce that her 21st & Motley playlist — featuring the explosive new track “RIIICH,” premiering below — is hitting streaming services this Friday.

21st & Motley is a place in my mind, a location I’ve been searching for through my music,” Mitchell, who’s currently on tour with St. Lucia and has opened for Tove Lo and MUNA, told EW over email. “I’ve been releasing my songs in a single-based order wherein each song is a different road to the same destination. A destination that doesn’t exist but one I’m slowly discovering through all parts of myself. Taking this journey to a fictional pinnacle has taught me a beautiful lesson in patience and surrender, bound by circumstance and fate, all roads are me. So often we need to choose a destination to allow ourselves to journey at all.”

Mitchell’s output this year has not only been prolific, it’s also been striking in its scope: “Kids (Ain’t Alright)” was a crunchy morsel of grunge-pop; “Cali God” was a dark, brooding number that drew comparisons to Lorde; “NOW” featured brights synths that could have been ripped from the ’80s — and those are only three of the styles the self-described “genre-bender” has touched this year. “RIICH,” with its weightless hook and trunk-rattling bass drop, might be the strongest addition yet to her rapidly growing body of work. Listen above.

21st & Motley is out Friday.
