Taylor Swift may have just dropped more clues about new music

For a second consecutive day, Taylor Swift set the internet ablaze when she shared a brief, silent video of what appears to be a snake at 11 a.m. ET. (More on the snake in a moment.) Clocking in at 20 seconds — twice as long as Monday’s clip — the grainy visual was once again shared without context or comment by Swift.

While some theorists continued to posit that the tail depicted in the clips belongs to a cat or dragon, many agree that it is likely a snake’s — the scales particularly resemble a bush viper — and, if that’s true, the videos might reference Swift’s extensive digital history with the slithering reptile.

After Kanye West made a vulgar reference to Swift in his February 2016 song “Famous,” the singer’s camp said she’d cautioned the rapper against using a lyric with a “strong misogynistic message.” Months later, West’s wife Kim Kardashian leaked a video of West’s conversation with Swift about the song, launching her campaign on National Snake Day with a slew of snake emoji.

“That moment when Kanye West secretly records your phone call, then Kim posts it on the Internet,” Swift wrote alongside a note on Instagram.

“Where is the video of Kanye telling me he was going to call me ‘that bitch’ in his song?’” she wrote in the note. “It doesn’t exist because it never happened. You don’t get to control someone’s emotional response to being called ‘that bitch’ in front of the entire world … While I wanted to be supportive of Kanye on the phone call, you cannot ‘approve’ a song you haven’t heard.”

There’s also some additional fodder in the teasers, regardless of what the mysterious creature’s identity ends up being. Social media users have flagged what appears to be the number 25 in the animal’s scales. That would seem to confirm rumors that Swift will release her new single this Friday, Aug. 25.

Swift released her fifth and most recent album, 1989, in 2014. EW has reached out to Swift’s representative for comment about the footage and details about any incoming content from the performer.
