Don’t hold against her — the Super Bowl will not be getting a piece of Britney Spears. Not in 2018, anyway.
Following rumors that the singer had “secret discussions” about headlining the February halftime show in Minneapolis, Pepsi, the company which sponsors the performance, is dismissing the possibility.
Appearing on a panel at Venues Now Conference in Beverly Hills on Wednesday, Justin Toman, Pepsi’s head of sports marketing, wouldn’t reveal who is performing, but made sure to add it’s “not Britney.”
He suggested the announcement will be made “in due time.” Lady Gaga’s participation in the 2017 Super Bowl was revealed last September.
Earlier in the week, the New York Daily News reported the singer had hopes to return to the Super Bowl stage, having performed at Super Bowl XXXV in 2001 alongside Aerosmith and *NSYNC.
Reps for Spears did not immediately respond to EW’s request for comment.
