It’s been more than two decades since Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins, Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes and Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas instantly hooked fans with their hit single “Waterfalls.”
Released May 29, 1995, the song was the third single off the group’s iconic CrazySexyCool album and became an instant international success. Not only did it spend weeks at the top of the music charts, the accompanying music video earned its own spot in the pop culture zeitgeist.
Like the song, the music video, directed by F. Gary Gray (The Fate of the Furious), tackled hot-button issues like drug use and HIV/AIDS. And its $1 million dollar budget paid off: the video won four MTV Video Music Awards, including the top prize for Video of the Year.
