Before Kanye West was famous and living the good life, he was a successful producer and aspiring rapper, who enjoyed freestyling on a scooter as evidenced in a newly surfaced throwback video.
In a video dated Sept. 22, 2000, West, sporting braids and braces, spits a verse in the streets of his hometown of Chicago. In the 16-year-old video, the legendary rapper shows glimpses of staples he’s become known for, including his ego; he claims, “Kanye more important than Michael Jordan.”
West was still more than three years away from releasing The College Dropout, his Grammy Award-winning debut album. Around this time, the rapper was finding success as a producer, becoming a vital contributor to Jay Z’s The Blueprint, which has been hailed as a hip-hop classic.
