After Fifth Harmony announced that Camila Cabello parted ways with the group in a note on Twitter Monday, the singer responded with her own message to fans, clarifying her side of the story.

Fifth Harmony originally wrote that Cabello informed the members she was leaving “via her representatives,” but Cabello says she was “shocked to read the statement the Fifth Harmony account posted without my knowing” and claimed that the rest of the group was well aware of her desire to leave and pursue her solo career.

“The girls were aware of my feelings through the long, much needed conversations about the future that we had during tour,” the 19-year-old wrote on Twitter. “Saying that they were just informed through my representatives that I was ‘leaving the group’ is simply not true. Just like the other girls said in their statement about their plans, I had also planned to continue with my own solo endeavors in the new year, but I did not intend to end things with Fifth Harmony this way. As sad as it is to see this chapter ending this way, I will continue to root them all on as individuals and as a group. I wish nothing but the best for them.”

Cabello continued her statement with words of encouragement to her many fans, and urged them to “be courageous in the pursuit of what makes your heart pound and what makes you come alive with purpose.”

She also clarified her goals as a solo artist, and said she will be working on new material in the coming year and “giving you a big chunk of my heart.” She thanked fans that have followed her from her time on The X Factor, when she and Ally Brooke, Normani Kordei, Dinah Jane and Lauren Jauregui were assembled as a girl group in 2012.
