SXSW documentary ¡Las Sandinistas! spotlights women revolutionaries: Watch a clip

Posted on

The new documentary ¡Las Sandinistas! explores the untold story of the women who fought on the front lines of Nicaragua’s Sandinista revolution to bring about social and political reform for their country, and how their battles for equality continue to the present day.

“I never heard tales of women commanding troops and leading massive grassroots social reform before I came across the stories of female Sandinistas,” filmmaker Jenny Murray says in her director’s statement. “They found creative ways to rise up out of the inequality around them, to invent a more just world for themselves and for their country. In them, I found the role models I’d been searching for, and their stories changed my life.”

¡Las Sandinistas! will make its world premiere at the SXSW Film Festival in Austin, Texas, on March 12. More details about the film’s SXSW screenings can be found on the festival website.
