They’ve appeared in numerous Marvel comics together over the years, but Deadpool and Cable have an uneasy partnership. The Merc with a Mouth’s fourth-wall-breaking hijinks constantly clash with the dystopian warrior’s gruff demeanor — a dynamic that appears to continue in this year’s Deadpool 2. The much-anticipated sequel will see Brolin take up the signature metal arm and glowing eye of Cable, in opposition to Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool.

Reynolds has proven capable of embodying Deadpool’s trickster spirit both on and off screen. He did it again on Monday when he shared a birthday message for Brolin. The image depicts the actors in their Deadpool 2 costumes, with Reynolds’ Deadpool drawing a portrait of Brolin’s Cable as a birthday present .. except he’s actually painting a picture of Brolin as Brand, his character in The Goonies.

“Happy Birthday, Bright Eye. You don’t taste a day over 40,” Reynolds wrote in the caption.

This post is only the latest Deadpool reference to beloved ’80s pop culture. A new poster for Deadpool 2 parodies Flashdance, and Juice Newton’s “Angel of the Morning” scored the first film’s opening sequence. Reynolds is also no stranger to birthday pranks; last year, both he and his wife Blake Lively playfully edited each other out of their birthday messages.

Check out Reynolds’ post below. Deadpool 2 hits theaters on May 18.

Happy Birthday, Bright Eye. You don’t taste a day over 40.
