Jennifer Lawrence is now a master of psychological manipulation in the new promo for Red Sparrow, her cinematic reunion with The Hunger Games franchise director Francis Lawrence (Catching Fire, Mockingjay – Part 1 and Part 2).
“When we are finished with you, the person you were will no longer exist,” says Charlotte Rampling, playing one of the heads of the Sparrow School, a secret intelligence service that trains young people to transform their bodies and minds into weapons. No wonder movie fans have been likening the concept to Marvel’s Black Widow.
Once there was Dominika Egorova (Lawrence), a prima ballerina determined to protect her mother at all costs. Now, there’s a living weapon and master manipulator.
After an injury destroys her career, Dominika is manipulated into becoming a recruit for the Sparrow School. The new Red Sparrow promo sees some of the sadistic training she must endure to come out on the other end. Though, she must then reconcile who she was with the power she now wields, while still fighting for the ones she cares about.
Lawrence directed the film based on a screenplay by Justin Haythe, who adapted the work from Jason Matthews’ book. Joel Edgerton, Matthias Schoenaerts, Mary-Louise Parker, and Jeremy Irons also star.
In addition to the promo, 20th Century Fox also unveiled a new poster that goes heavy on the red.
Red Sparrow will hit theaters on March 2, 2018. Watch the new footage above.
