Matt Damon filmed Downsizing shortly after Jason Bourne, so his still-fit form required the help of a fat suit to look like a normal American man. But some of his other makeup made Damon look less like a normal guy and more like the villain of a major TV franchise, according to his Downsizing costar Hong Chau.

“The first time I met him was on our first day of shooting in the makeup trailer,” Chau told Entertainment Weekly: The Show. “They were doing makeup tests on him. He had this chalky white makeup on, and his eyes are so blue, it was freaky. I was like, ‘Oh my god, he looks like a White Walker from Game of Thrones. This is so terrifying!’”

Chau also described her own role in Downsizing as a “fresh way of telling a refugee story.”

“It really sprang out of the story and premise where we have this amazing technology,” Chau says. “These Norwegians use it in a very noble way. Capitalism is king in America, so they use it this way. How would a government that is more repressive use this technology? That’s where my character sprang from.”
