It 8-bit game inspired by Stephen King movie will send you into the sewers

Warner Bros. Pictures

Can’t wait for the release of the new adaptation of Stephen King’s It?

Bide your time with a new online 8-bit game that allows you to pilot paper boat S.S. Georgie through the sewers of Derry, Maine to collect red balloons and avoid the clutches of the terrifying Pennywise the clown.

The game marks a non-traditional marketing campaign from Warner Bros. in advance of the Sept. 8 release of the new adaptation based on Stephen King’s novel of the same name.

Much like similar 8-bit games, you use the directional arrows on your keyboard to control the paper boat as it floats through the town, collecting balloons and avoiding sewer pipes.

The game marks the second major off-beat push in the marketing campaign for the hotly-anticipated film. The studio already opened a pop-up haunted house in Hollywood last weekend inspired by Pennywise’s lair in the film for fans to visit and use as a photo op.
