Jane Fonda and Robert Redford warm up to each other in the new trailer for Netflix’s upcoming feature Our Souls at Night.
The minimal clip, set to Etta James’ “A Sunday Kind of Love,” features no dialogue, instead showing the on-screen couple nuzzling close during a mid-day drive down a sunny, rural road, heading toward a mountain that looms in the distance.
In the film, the Academy Award winners play a widow and a widower, respectively, who’ve lived next to each other for years, but spark a late-in-life romance after an unexpected connection sparks attraction between them. Our Souls at Night‘s story is adapted from Kent Haruf’s novel of the same name.
The Ritesh Batra-directed film, which also stars Matthias Schoenaerts, Judy Greer, and Fonda’s former Coming Home costar Bruce Dern, marks the pair’s first onscreen appearance in a major motion picture in almost 40 years, after previously appearing side-by-side in movies like The Chase, Barefoot in the Park, and The Electric Horseman between 1966 and 1979.
Our Souls at Night begins a likely awards season run when it world-premieres out of competition at the 2017 Venice Film Festival on Sept. 1, ahead of a Sept. 29 bow on the streaming service and in select theaters. Watch the first teaser trailer above, and check out a few stills below.
