Marvel Studios found its latest high-profile addition to its cinematic universe: Walton Goggins. The Hateful Eight and Vice Principals actor will join Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly in Ant-Man and The Wasp, EW has learned.
Details on Goggins’ character are unknown, but the news comes just days before Marvel will present a panel at San Diego Comic-Con. Fans planning to congregate in Hall H on Saturday will be treated to first looks and new details on the MCU’s upcoming slate of movies. Just last week at Disney’s D23 Expo, the first footage from Avengers: Infinity War was unleashed.
Plot details for Ant-Man and The Wasp are equally unclear. However, Rudd will reprise his role of Scott Lang and will share the film’s title with Lilly’s Hope van Dyne as she assumes her mother’s persona as The Wasp. Expect new suits, advances in the size-shrinking technology, and scenes of Hope’s mom, Janet. (Casting hasn’t been announced yet, but Sharon Stone did say she has a “wee” role in a Marvel movie.)
Goggins, who will also be seen in the near future as the villain of Tomb Raider, joins cast members Michael Peña, David Dastmalchian, Michael Douglas, and Hannah John-Kamen. Randall Park will also portray S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Jimmy Woo.
Dastmalchian told EW in May that Ant-Man and The Wasp “is going to do things in the Marvel universe that they haven’t gotten an opportunity to do yet and I just got some tidbits the other day and they’re mind-blowing. It’s going to be really cool.”
Ant-Man and The Wasp, directed by Peyton Reed, will open on July 6, 2018 — two months after Avengers: Infinity War hits theaters.
Deadline was the first to announce the news.
