Alongside Elle Fanning, Nat Wolff, Maddie Ziegler, and Carly Rae Jepsen, the comedienne will voice three characters in the upcoming film. The video above shows her working on the character Régine, whom she describes as a “prototypical step-mother type” and “a bit uptight.”
“But it comes from love of her daughter, misplaced,” she explains.
Leap!, directed by Eric Summer and Éric Warin, is the story of a young orphan, Félicie (voiced by Fanning), fleeing to Paris with her best friend (Wolff) to start her training as a ballerina. To enter the prestigious Opera Ballet School, she poses as a child of a wealthy family. Jepsen voices Félicie’s mentor, Odette, while Ziegler voices Félicie’s competing classmate, Camille Le Haut.
McKinnon’s other two voice roles in the film, she adds, are that of Félicie’s late mother, and the mother superior of the orphanage where the young girl lives.
“I just leap at the opportunity to do great cartoon characters,” McKinnon quips.
Leap! opens in theaters on Aug 30.
