Despite his diminutive size, the possessed devil-doll Chucky is not someone given to half-measures. Earlier Thursday, EW exclusively premiered the trailer for Cult of Chucky, the seventh film in the Child’s Play series, which is released Oct. 3 on unrated Blu-ray, DVD, and digital. But today also saw the release of a red-band version, which considerably ratchets-up the onscreen mayhem.

Written and directed by longtime franchise architect Don Mancini, Cult of Chucky finds Fiona Dourif returning to reprise the role of Nica, who is confined to an asylum for the criminally insane, wrongly convinced that she — not the possessed doll Chucky murdered her entire family. But when her psychiatrist introduces a new group therapy tool — a “Good Guy” doll — a string of grisly deaths plagues the asylum and Nica starts to wonder if maybe she isn’t crazy after all. Andy (Alex Vincent), Chucky’s now grownup nemesis from the original Child’s Play, races to Nica’s aid. But to save her, he’ll have to get past Tiffany (Jennifer Tilly), Chucky’s long-ago bride, who will do anything, no matter how deadly or depraved, to help her beloved (and, once again, Brad Dourif-voiced) devil doll, who is possessed by the spirit of serial killer, Charles Lee Ray.
