Hey Bud, let’s party! If you’re looking for a gnarly summer outing, Fathom Events and the TCM Big Screen Classics Series have you covered.
Fast Times at Ridgemont High is returning to movie theaters for two days only in celebration of its 35th anniversary. On Sunday, July 30, and Wednesday, Aug. 2, fans can revisit Ridgemont High and spend a few hours with Spicoli (Sean Penn), Stacy (Jennifer Jason Leigh), Brad (Judge Reinhold) and more.
The 35th anniversary screening is part of Fathom Events and TCM’s ongoing Big Screen Classics screening series, which is bringing 14 titles back to cinemas nationwide throughout the year.
Named to the Library of Congress’ National Film Registry in 2005, this high school tale of Jeff Spicoli and his classmates has become a classic in the 35 years since its debut. Featuring an early script from Cameron Crowe and a star-making turn from Sean Penn, the film uses a comedic lens and stoner comedy to explore the vagaries of growing up and the emotional twists and turns of high school kids yearning to grow up too fast.
Clueless auteur Amy Heckerling established herself as a director with a keen eye for teenage life with this film. On its 30th anniversary, Crowe described the film as a movie we “snuck through the studio system” and admitted to keeping a red trash can from the set in his writing room.
The screenings will also feature before and after commentary from TCM host Ben Mankiewicz.
