James Gunn endorses Yondu version of EW's Mary Poppins Returns cover

Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn has good news and bad news for Entertainment Weekly and, specifically, our now-on-stands Mary Poppins Returns cover. The good? Writing on Facebook, Gunn declared the cover to be “great.” The bad? The filmmaker said that he preferred the “enhanced” version from artist BossLogic Inc in which the features of Mary Poppins Returns star Emily Blunt are replaced by those of Michael Rooker, made-up as his Guardians character, Yondu. This redesign is of course inspired by the joke in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 which finds Chris Pratt’s Star-Lord comparing Yondu to Mary Poppins when he uses his arrow as a transportation device and Rooker’s subsequent declaration, “I’m Mary Poppins, y’all!”

We still prefer the Emily Blunt version but we’re not about to pick a fight with the man who brought us dancing Baby Groot.
