Veteran character actor Powers Boothe died Sunday at age 68, leaving behind a legacy of onscreen villains and heavies and touching the lives of many with his work in projects such as Tombstone, Deadwood, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., 24, and Oliver Stone’s Nixon.
Boothe’s death was first announced via Twitter by actor Beau Bridges. “It’s with great sadness that I mourn the passing of my friend Powers Boothe. A dear friend, great actor, devoted father & husband,” Bridges wrote online. But the tributes from Hollywood didn’t stop there — with many former colleagues, costars, and admirers paying respect to Boothe online in the hours since his death was confirmed.
“Terrible. We were incredibly lucky to have him on [Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.],” wrote Boothe’s costar on the ABC series, Chloe Bennet. “He taught me a lot. RIP Powers. My heart is with his family.”
