This is FATE week on EW.com. Every day, we’ll be debuting a new behind-the-scenes look at The Fate of the Furious, the latest film in the ongoing saga of Dominic Toretto’s globetrotting family of car-action superstars.
Charlize Theron knows something about being fast and furious. In 2015, the same year Furious Seven earned $1.5 billion globally, the Academy Award-winning actress had an instantly iconic turn as the truck-driving badass Imperator Furiosa in Mad Max: Fury Road. Fans cheered when they heard she’d be playing the villain in The Fate of the Furious, and in a new exclusive behind-the-scenes clip, Theron introduces Cipher, the first lead female antagonist in the series. “Some of her actions in this film have definitely devastated and loosened the foundation of what this franchise was about,” Theron promises.
Like the proverbial gigantic steel wrecking ball, The Fate of the Furious hits theaters April 14. Come back to EW.com every day this week for a closer look at the film’s wild filming, including interviews with cast and crew.
