Beauty and the Beast star Luke Evans premieres new look at 'Gaston'

Posted on

Earlier Tuesday, Beauty and the Beast star Luke Evans appeared on Good Morning America to premiere a new look at “Gaston,” the song his villainous character of the same name performs with Josh Gad’s Le Fou in the live-action remake. Although the tune will sound familiar to fans of the 1991 animated classic, this version features new lyrics which incorporate alternate lines written back in the day by the late Howard Ashman who, together with Alan Menken, penned all the numbers in the original movie.

“We have lines that were not in the original,” Evans said when EW visited the film’s set in the summer of 2015. “The guys did at Disney reviewed all the transcripts and recordings, they’ve been able to go back through those hours and hours of recorded footage, and listen to lyrics that were written and never used, which are actually gems. For the audience who know the song immensely well — which I think is most people — you will hear a few new lines, which are really really special.”

Footage of “Gaston” was previously glimpsed in an earlier trailer for the film, but this new offering includes Gad and Evans singing the big number.

You can see that footage from “Gaston,” above. Beauty and the Beast arrives on March 17.
