Chloë Grace Moretz and Universal’s live-action take on The Little Mermaid has an early favorite to direct. The studio is in early talks with Rebecca Thomas (2012’s Electrick Children), a Universal spokesperson confirms to EW.

Thomas is early in her career with only one feature under her belt; however, she recently landed the gig to direct the adaptation of John Green’s debut novel Looking for Alaska.

Sofia Coppola originally signed up to direct the movie, but dropped out in June due to creative differences. Moretz’s involvement is a newer development, only announced last month.
