Gone Girl author Gillian Flynn will co-write a thriller based on miniseries Widows, to be directed by 12 Years A Slave‘s Steve McQueen, per Deadline.
Iain Canning and Emile Sherman of See-Saw Films, the team behind The King’s Speech, will produce the movie along with McQueen.
Originally a British miniseries, Widows told the story of four widows who set out to complete a heist after their husbands are killed in the process. Brooke Shields, Rosie Perez, Mercedes Ruehl and N’Bushe Wright starred in series four-episode American counterpart.
The New Regency project will be co-financed by Film 4 and TV rights will be licensed in the U.K.
Flynn is also working on the HBO series Utopia, another British series adaption, with Gone Girl director David Fincher.
