Star Wars: Battlefront II was repping the galaxy far, far away at the E3 press conference for EA Games on Saturday, but Respawn Entertainment CEO Vince Zampella popped in to drop some news: there’s a new Star Wars game coming in 2019 — and it has a title, too!
It’s called Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. Though Zampella didn’t want to get into too many details before his team was ready to fully reveal the project, he did say it’s safe to assume you’ll be playing as a Jedi. EA Games, which acquired Respawn in 2017, confirmed that the game centers on “a surviving Padawan.”
“It takes place during the Dark Times when the Jedi are being hunted,” Zampella confirmed. “So it’s gonna be spectacular.”
He further teased the story will take place between Episode III – Revenge of the Sith and Episode IV – A New Hope, to place it in the context of the grander Star Wars timeline. Aside from that, all we know is that the game will drop sometime during the 2019 holiday season.
Respawn had previously announced momentum on this new third-person action-adventure game in 2016 with former God of War director Stig Asmussen at the helm.
“I have been playing Star Wars games my whole life, now I get to make a Star Wars game,” Asmussen wrote in a letter online. “On top of that, I get to do it at Respawn, a studio comprised of the most talented collection of game makers, creators, visionaries, and (most importantly) advocates for the player, that I have had the good fortune to work with. And we, like you all, have no shortage of Star Wars passion.”
While we wait for more information, the bigger announcements for Battlefront II, which includes the Solo: A Star Wars Story mission on Kessel, included another impending DLC involving The Clone Wars.
Players will soon be able to travel to the planet Geonosis, which will be “the largest map ever built,” as teased at the presentation. There, new characters General Grievous, Obi-Wan Kenobi, padawan Anakin Skywalker, and Count Dooku will duke it out.
