Nostalgia isn’t only for Hollywood to use as fuel for its wave of reboots and re-imaginings. In the gaming world, Spyro the dragon is getting Reignited and remastered.
The same spirit that offered the original Crash Bandicoot games a fresh, clean makeover for the new age will give another favorite video game character from the ’90s an update for the 2010s. Spyro Reignited Trilogy will bring back the original Spyro trilogy of games — 1998’s Spyro the Dragon, 1999’s Spyro 2: Ripto’s Rage! and 2000’s Spyro: Year of the Dragon — in glorious, brand-spanking new remastered editions.
To show just how much of a redesign is on the way, Activision released a trailer and side-by-side comparisons. They’re the same stories, but with a much better look, sound, and easier-to-handle controls.
It even has Tom Kenny, the original Spyro voice actor. All this in time to celebrate the franchise’s 20th anniversary this year.
Spyro Reignited Trilogy will drop on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 4 Pro and the Xbox One family of devices from Microsoft beginning this Sep. 21. Pre-orders are already available at the suggested retail price of $39.99.
