The world of Ubisoft’s highly-anticipated game Far Cry 5 will soon come to life, literally.
Ahead of the game’s March 27 debut, Ubisoft will release Inside Eden’s Gate, an original live-action short film set within the game’s fictional Hope County, Montana — and EW has an exclusive first look at the extended trailer (above).
The latest installment in the Far Cry franchise is an open-world thriller in which players are in the POV of a junior deputy in Hope County, which has been taken over by radical preacher Joseph Seed and his doomsday cult. It’s the player’s job to then gather rebel forces and oppose Eden’s Gate and their supposed holy war, which escalates from stealing land to kidnapping citizens.
The roughly 30-minute project, set to be released on Amazon Prime on March 5, will serve as a backstory for the game. Here’s the premise: Rumors of a cult, called The Project at Eden’s Gate, lure three video bloggers to Hope County as they follow leads on missing locals and other strange events. They’ll come face-to-face with Joseph Seed, played by Greg Bryk, the same actor who lends his voice to the in-game version of the cult leader. American Sniper‘s Kyle Wallner also appears in the short, which was produced in partnership with Amazon and Asylum, a division of Legendary Entertainment.
“At Ubisoft, we always strive to build worlds and narratives that actively engage our consumers both in and outside of our core gaming experiences,” said Tony Key, senior vice president of marketing and consumer experience at Ubisoft. “Our partnership with Asylum Entertainment provided a unique opportunity for the team to work with top-tier acting talent in Greg Bryk that bridges the consumers’ experience from the short film to the game.”
Far Cry 5 will be released for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on March 27.
