THE BLIND SIDE (2009)
Bullock broke out of her rom-com comfort zone for this based-on-a-true-story flick about football and family. The triumph of Bullock's performance is that she manages to be both big-hearted and hard-charging — most notably when she goes looking for Michael (the football player she's taken in) and faces down group of local thugs. ''You threaten my son, you threaten me,'' she growls. And taking on Leigh Anne is not a good idea. She's got a ''Saturday night special'' tucked inside her designer handbag.

MISS CONGENIALITY (2000)
Bullock's tomboy-cop-turned-beauty contestant teases her partner (Benjamin Bratt), ''You think I'm gorgeous, you want to kiss me, you want to hug me.'' Her sing-song delivery is still quoted a decade later.

Bullock shines in her breakout role as a woman with a revoked license forced to drive a bus that can't go under 50 mph — or it will explode. Our favorite line? ''It's just like driving a really big Pinto!''

TWO WEEKS NOTICE (2002)
What do you do when nature calls but you're stuck in rush hour traffic? Race to the nearest RV and beg to use the bathroom! It's one of most delightfully comic sequences, by Bullock or anyone.

THE PROPOSAL (2009)
The latest (and greatest?) entry in Bullock's romantic pratfall canon finds her wet, nude, and knocking over an equally bare Ryan Reynolds. ''Why are you naked?!'' she screams. ''Oh, my God!''

WHILE YOU WERE SLEEPING (1995)
It may be the most romantic Bullock-related ''proposal'': Bill Pullman drops an engagement ring into her fare collection window. The guy had great taste — we'd fallen for her too.

HOPE FLOATS (1998)
Much of this movie is weighed down by melodrama, but when Bullock wraps her arms around hunky Harry Connick Jr. for a sassy Texas two-step — then a swoon-worthy slow dance — it positively soars.

Bullock takes a rare unsympathetic role as the racist wife of an L.A. district attorney. It's a shocking performance, and Bullock nails the character's inner turmoil: ''I'm angry all the time, and I don't know why.''

DIVINE SECRETS OF THE YA-YA SISTERHOOD (2002)
In a foray into the fraught world of female empowerment flicks, Bullock plays the part of a promising playwright who's still struggling to come to terms with her over-dramatic, vodka-swilling mother (Ellen Burstyn). ''I am sick and tired of her tantrums and drunken rages!'' she fumes. ''I heard the ice clinking in the glass, mama! Sounds of my happy childhood!''

FORCES OF NATURE (1999)
Okay, so the movie kinda stinks. But watching Ben Affleck do a silly strip tease in a gay bar — with Bullock making like Vanna White as she shows of his goods — is PG-13 perfection.
