Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children video goes behind-the-scenes

Posted on

Ransom Riggs based his Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children books off old archival photographs he had collected, a darkly surreal idea that seems straight out of a Tim Burton movie. Turns out that’s what Burton thought, too, when he first read the book.

“I like Ransom’s book, I like the fact that he made a story out of these old photographs,” Burton said in a new behind-the-scenes featurette of his upcoming film adaptation of the book. “It just felt very compelling and mysterious … There’s something that’s quite poetic and beautiful about this whole world.”

Elsewhere in the short, actors and producers talk about the themes of the movie, while footage showcases the characters’ “pecularities” — breathing underwater, flying, invisibility. Think of it like X-Men by way of Edward Scissorhands

“It’s refreshing that a movie says ’embrace your uniqueness, don’t be ashamed of it,'” star Eva Green said.

Watch the video below. Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children hits theaters Sep. 30.
