Home Chic Home
''If we're going to err on a side, we always start on a more intelligent loving side and rarely to any kind of a dark side because it's just not part of anything we've explored to date. There's some innocence.'' says Gallenberg of creating Mindy?s décor aesthetic, a process in which Kaling herself was heavily involved. That translates into bright and cheery artwork and accent pillows, quirky decorations and airy linens.

The Custom Bed
An oversized custom headboard is an essential element in the character's ''very modern'' apartment. ''We wanted it [to look] clean, so there are several grey and off-white tones,'' Gallenberg says.

The Frog Prince Lamp
Mindy's kissed her fair share of frogs, hence the bedside lamp. ''She's a young, single professional, well educated, stylish woman looking for meaning of life and love in the city,'' says Gallenberg. ''She has an incredible profession helping people and she's got a wonderful personality and outlook on life, which is innocent on a lot of levels, and very sophisticated on a lot of levels. We use all the little cues to paint this picture.''

The Band Poster
To fill Mindy's house with fabulous artwork, the set design team collected pieces from Etsy.com, borrowed from prop and art houses and even made artwork of their own. ''Mindy was very, very hands-on in selecting artwork, as was Matt Warburton, our other executive producer. [We] had a very strong vision for what this character was — she likes quirky things but with an intelligent flair — so it was a great collaboration to get the set to where it is.''

The Jonathan Adler Pillows
''We wanted [to create an office] that was professional yet welcoming. If a pregnant woman was coming in to see her doctor in that office, you know it would be a calm place,'' Gallenberg says. What better way to make a pregnant woman comfortable than with chic and cheery pillows?

Mindy's Office Lamp
From a tangerine office chair, to a pink Turkish rug, Mindy's office is packed with vibrant color. ''We've gone through a process with that space and continue to; giving it the right feeling and the right background colors. We have massaged them a little bit over the course of the [first season],'' says Gallenberg, who shopped for lamps at H.D. Buttercup. The piece above isn't the exact lamp that sits behind Mindy's desk, but it's a similar style.
