YOUNG KURT ON GLEE
(Adam Kolkin as Chris Colfer's character)
We had to do a double take during the flashback montage featuring mini-Kurt and his dad, Burt, during ''Grilled Cheesus.'' But it turns out it wasn't a magically de-aged Chris Colfer, just a boy who would reduce us to a sobby mess.

YOUNG CLARK AND YOUNG LEX ON SMALLVILLE
(Malkolm Alburquenque as Tom Welling's character; and Connor Stanhope as Michael Rosenbaum's character)
We first saw mini-Clark in the pilot and again in season 2's ''Lineage,'' when Clark was told the story of his adoption. A mini-Lex was also in the same episodes, but it was Connor Stanhope's cameo as the young future villain in seasons 7 and 8 that caught our eye.

YOUNG MITCHELL AND YOUNG CLAIRE ON MODERN FAMILY
(Justin Tinucci as Jesse Tyler Ferguson's character; Zoe Noelle as Julie Bowen's character)
Mitchell and Claire have only been shown as children by way of embarrassing family photographs, including this one of them as skating duo Fire and Nice. But if Modern Family ever plans on doing a flashback episode, they must have these children reprise the roles. In these costumes. With those expressions.

YOUNG BEN LINUS ON LOST
(Sterling Beaumon as Michael Emerson's character)
No explanation needed. Just watch this.

YOUNG TOMMY ON BROTHERS & SISTERS
(Cody Longo as Balthazar Getty's character)
Joe Jonas was slated to take on the role of young Tommy Walker for Brothers & Sister's April 11 flashback episode, but later had to opt out due to a scheduling conflict. He was replaced by Make It or Break It's Cody Longo, but photographic evidence shows it really worked out for the best.

YOUNG DEXTER ON DEXTER
(Dominic Janes as Michael C. Hall's character)
It's not easy showing how a boy becomes a serial murderer, but it helps when you have a killer resemblance.

YOUNG PETER ON FRINGE
(Quinn Lord as Joshua Jackson's character)
It's always a risk putting a child actor at the center of a scene as emotional and significant as the one shared by Walter and young Peter in the episode ''Peter.'' Thankfully, Quinn Lord, whose credits include bit parts in The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus and Smallville, pulled off a scene that was believable and had us in tears both here and on the Other Side.

YOUNG SAM ON SUPERNATURAL
(Colin Ford as Jared Padalecki's character)
We first saw Colin Ford as little Sammy Winchester in season 3, and he has since appeared in three other episodes — which is more than we can say about some of the not-so-doppelgänger minis that have portrayed his brother, Dean. With a resemblance this spot-on (look at that shaggy hair and those puppy-dog eyes!), you have to wonder: Which casting director made a deal with the devil?

YOUNG MICHAEL ON PRISON BREAK
(Dylan Minnette as Wentworth Miller's character)
Though largely silent in most of the flashback scenes that featured him, Saving Grace's Dylan Minnette was still able to convincingly tell the story of Michael Scofield's troubled childhood, helped largely by the fact that he was able to so accurately imitate Wentworth Miller's signature gaze. You know, the one that says I will drill holes into your soul with my eyes the same way I use eggbeaters to drill through prison walls so I can break out.

YOUNG CHUCK ON PUSHING DAISIES
(Sammi Hanratty as Anna Friel's character)
While we didn't see the similarity between Ned and his often-shown younger version, Sammi Hanratty as innocent-faced young Chuck nearly made us keel over in shock.

YOUNG SHAWN AND YOUNG GUS ON PSYCH
(Liam James as James Roday's character; Carlos McCullers II as Dule Hill's character)
The flashback-heavy Psych often relies on the talents of their pint-size cast, and with good reason. Not only do these kids have a great likeness to our crime-solving duo, but they also manage to portray their friendship in a way that usually leaves viewers awwwwwwing.

YOUNG KATE ON LOST
(Emily Evan Rae as Evangeline Lilly's character)
In the course of its flashbacks, side-flashes, upside-down flashes, and so on, Lost has shown us the younger version of many characters, but on which mystery island did the show find a pre-criminal Kate with the same lightly freckled face as its leading starlet? Like many things about Lost, there may never be an answer...

YOUNG J.D. ON SCRUBS
(Cody Estes as Zach Braff's character)
You may remember Cody Estes' face from his stints as young Malcolm on Malcolm in the Middle, but it was his appearances as young J.D. that really caught our eye — even in his blink-and-you-miss-him appearances. Plus, any kid who in separate appearances on a show dons a blond wig, gets smacked in the head with a Frisbee, and gets kicked in the chicken nuggets deserves recognition.

YOUNG EARL ON MY NAME IS EARL
(Noah Crawford as Jason Lee's character)
Jason Lee's unique look couldn?t have been easy to duplicate, so karma had to be on someone's side for the show to find a boy who could mimic both Earl's look and goofy nature.

YOUNG SIMON ON FIREFLY
(Zac Efron as Sean Maher's character)
Ah, Firefly. We barely knew ye. But at least you were around long enough to deliver a flashback episode — and flashback casting — that was out of this world.
